I've met several Madisons, but the only "Maddie" I know is Maddalena.
I think Madi is the best part of Madison; the son part doesn't improve it imv.

Madison’s mum was a huge fan of the film Splash.

I don't like it. It's about on par with Ashley in my mind. I think that eventually, it'll seem bizarre, like some of those antiquated, country 1930s creations like my great aunt named Udell do to people now. It's just such a strong signifier of the early 2000s. It's like Madison belongs with the chunky highlights and rhinestone studded low rise jeans we'd all rather forget we ever wore.

I actually really like Madison. I always hated Maddie though.

Not a fan and never have been. I understand why so many aren't crazy for it either. I'm glad it's decreasing in popularity and hope it continues to do so. I hope it drops from the top 100 within the next couple of years.

Madeline is okay.

When I joined here in 2007 it was the name everyone loved to hate. I’ve never liked it, it’s not very feminine, and will become very dated but there uglier names out there.

It's not really out of style now, I don't think, just not super trency like it was 20 years ago.
I never hated it the way some people on here seem to do out of general principle, but I never really liked it that much either. I can see where it got its appeal from, it was very similar to Taylor, which also got popular around the same time, and it was also similar to Allison, which had been popular a long time before and is still popular.

I'm glad it fell out of the Top 20. It can keep falling as far as I'm concerned.

In case it wasn't obvious from the above statements, I strongly dislike the name Madison. Madeline / Madeleine took a bit to grow on me (I didn't like that the names started with "Mad"), but even back when I disliked those two I thought they were both infinitely more tasteful than Madison.

Not only does Madison start with "Mad," but it's also one of those "feminine names ending in -son" that rub me the wrong way. Additionally, it's a major city in Wisconsin (the capital, no less). It's not a terrible city, it's just... a city. It has the same energy as Kanye & Kim naming their daughter Chicago, honestly. (The cities are also not far from one another.)

As a ln, it's fine. As a girl name, with the meaning Son of Maud, it's almost funny.
