[Opinions] Re: Martha
in reply to a message by Perrine
I think Martha is ugly-cute. It's my dog's name, hence my username. I think it's pretty funny on a dog.
I appreciate its old fashioned, no-nonsense austerity. I wouldn't use it on a child, I don't think, but I'd be delighted to meet another person's little Martha.
Can't get behind Bertha or Erma. I find them almost offensively ugly.

Martha as a dog's name ...
Ever heard of "Martha Speaks"? It was a PBS kiddie show, based on a book, where the dog, Martha, develops the ability to speak after she eats alphabet soup.

I didn't hear about it until after I named my Martha. I still don't come across many Martha dogs, but I didn't anticipate coming across any. I think the show is responsible for a little spike in Martha dogs.
Yeah, far more dogs are named Bella and Bailey and Sadie. :)
The song “Martha My Dear” was about Paul McCartney’s dog, Martha.
Now, I did know that before I named her and I planned on that being the cute lovey song I sang to her all the time. But instead I sing "Jolene" by Dolly Parton but replace Jolene with Martine. It's ridiculous.
