I don't *like* it, but if I have to pick from a pool of dated 80s/90s names, Lindsay is somewhere closer to the top after Caitlin, Lauren, Megan, and Stephanie.
It's certainly better than Ashley, Brittany, Kimberly, Amber, etc. It's less substantial than Jennifer and Jessica, but the sound is prettier.
I don't have a spelling preference.
Now that I think about it, I associate the name with Lacey. There was this huge boom of Laceys in my home city when I was a kid. It was like every girl was Lauren, Lacey, or Lindsay.
