"Gentle and sweet" is a one of the most common things that people look for when naming babies, so you're definitely going to be in the minority on this one.

I like a lot of names that sound strong to me. Vidia, Eleanor, Matilda, Katarina, Roderick, Arthur, etc... Strength is not the opposite of sweetness, so I also consider some of these names sweet, but they aren't some overly saccharine or passive sounding names. I like a name with backbone along with other positive traits.
