[Opinions] Amaya
Lately I have been mulling this name over in my head, which I guess a lot of parents have been doing lately. I was very suprised to see that it was ranked 184 in 2003, because it wasn't on the charts until 1999! What do you think of this name? I think its pretty, and I love its meaning. However, I'm not sure if it should be pro. A-my-ah or a-may-ah? I like it both ways...oddly. How would you pro. it?

I prefer Amalia or Amala...

I like it, and though I prefer the pronunciation ah-MAY-ah, I suppose it's really pronounced ah-MIE-ah (which isn't so bad at all), and so I'll try and start to pronounce it that way.I am a little fearful that Amaya's popularity will set off a Japanese Names Trend, like the Irish Names Trend. And we've all seen how Irish names have been butchered...Miranda

I *love* Amaya. My sister learns Japanese and assures me it's ah-MYE-uh, so I'm taking her word for it until somebody convinces me otherwise :-p

I love Amaya, and the meaning, and I say a-MY-ah.

I would pronounce it A-my-a. A-may-a sounds like mayonaise (I just spelled that wrong didn't I)
