[Opinions] Artemis and Diana
I was thinking about these two names together today and looked them up to check that they weren’t exactly the same goddess, but they were. I knew Artemis was the greek goddess of hunting but completely forgot that Diana was the roman goddess of hunting. Aside from that, do you think these names sound nice together? I’m really starting to like Artemis (and Artemisia too).

I adore Artemis, there’s so much imagery, strength, and beauty that she quickly shot up my list to the #2 spot. I did crush on Diana a bit after Wonder Woman. I loved the way it was said, and of course the character is awesome! That being said Diana is so familiar, especially with other -ana/-anna names it blends in to me, and feels somewhat dated. It loses the magic of Artemis in my opinion. I do think they sound nice together, but for siblings or in a combo, I’d say the connection between the two is too strong.
They feel very different to me, if you just consider the style I mean. Artemis is obviously Ancient Greek and rather unheard of as a given name, it sounds strong but youthful to me. Diana is much more popular, maybe even a bit boring and sounds very middle-aged to me.
When I hear them together I immediately think of the fact that they are the same goddess.
I love the male Russian version Artyom by the way.

Right Artemis is way more boyish than girlish.
Diana is nice. I've not known many so I associate it mainly with Princess Diana, which isn't a bad association.
Artemis is one I love, and Artemisia is easily a top 10 favorite for me. Like if I were pregnant today that would be near the top of my list for a baby girl. But if my SO was more into Artemis than Artemisia I would be fine with that too. It has a subtle strength to it I like a lot. Probably helps I grew up around a lot of Greeks and, while Christian, they actually used a lot of ancient Greek names in their families (and a lot of Christian names too, of course), including the names of gods, and that helped normalize a lot of these sorts of names to me. Knowing real women, strong women I admire, who bear these names has definitely made me love these names more.
eta: forgot to comment on them as a sibset! I think Artemis and Diana sound nice as a sibset, mainly because I like the idea they're different names for similar (or the same) god. This isn't like giving kids variations of the same name, Diana and Artemis are wholly different names, so I think that's passable. Maybe the only issue would be most people would hear those two names and think of them as wildly different because Diana is a "normal" name in present day while Artemis isn't, and most don't automatically think of the goddess association (probably because of Princess Diana). But I think they're lovely together.

I have no idea why but I’ve always liked Artemis. I don’t get what’s appealing, I just like it. Diana is beautiful.
When you say nice together, do you mean as a sibset or a combo? They each give off different vibes to me. Artemis sounds kind of tough while Diana is frilly and I’m neutral about how they sound together. It’s nice that they’re tied together by meaning though.

I mean as a sibset :)
Also I get the kind of tough and frilly thing but for some reason I think Diana sounds quite strong too.

I agree! It does sound strong.
Artemis is not a very attractive name. It sounds like something in a math book, like azimuth and artemis and integer. Artemisia just sounds like trying to make a silk purse from a sow's ear.
I do like Diana, very much.

As someone who knew they are the Greek and Roman names for the same goddess, I think they sound alright together but I would never use them in a sibset or something. I do know a woman who has a daughter named Artemis (nn Ari), but I prefer Diana. I don't know that I would ever use it, but it is a lovely name. The association with the goddess (who seems very strong and totally awesome) makes me like it even more.
