I like the name Memphis. It reminds me of Tennessee, which I dislike, but it also reminds me of Ancient Egypt so that is a huge plus for it.
I think I prefer it on a boy. I wouldn't mind it on a girl, though.
Nicknames are hard for it. They all sounds silly to me.
For siblings, I think I'd stay away from other geological locations so that it doesn't get theme-y.
I would use this on a child if I liked it more. That is, I don't see anything wrong with it being on a human child.
