[Opinions] Asa vs. Ira
If you had to choose between Asa and Ira, and couldn't pass on both, which would you choose, and why? What do you think of these names, individually?Bonus Question: If Asa and Ira had sisters, what would their names be? And when would these people have been born? **Starfish and coffee, maple syrup and jam/Butterscotch clouds, a tangerine, and a side order of ham**

I'd pick Ira. I like it. I prefer Isaac, though.Ira and...
Marigold, Janet, Peggy, Odessa, Judith, Gladys, Florence, Penny, Topaz, Ethel, Olive, Sharon,
Naomi, Bernice, Violet, Pearl, Nellie, Evelyn, Amalia, Sybil, Esther, Gwen, Hope, Phoebe.Born 50 or more years ago, or 5 years ago onward.Asa and...idk...
Jewel, Felicity, Zoe, Eden.I have no frame of reference for Asa. I've never heard of one, and it sounds like Asia to me.

Asa, since Ira looks like IRA. They both feel elderly, scholarly, bearded, and very religious, though Asa is quieter, and Ira is more gruff. Their sisters would also have biblical names, say, Ruth and Miriam.

IraAsa sounds oily and devious to me, I don't like the sound of it. I guess I'd get used to it though - I can picture it suiting a laid back, warm personality.Ira is one I've always liked the sound of.Asa, Ira, Ruthie, and Goldie born in the 20s (1920s, or 2020s)? I dunno.

Asa, it’s a cool little name, I like it a lot. Ira is not for me, just doesn’t grab me the same. As for sisters names I think Lois, Miriam, Lydia, Esther, Elizabeth, Olive, Tabitha, Rosemary, Eve, Adah, Abigail, Faith, Grace, Hannah, Keziah, Lilia, Mary, Martha, Celeste and Zelda would all work. I think they were born in the 1920’s or 1930’s.

I love Ira. It's a top 5 name for me right now. Asa is also very nice, but I'm a sucker for a good R sound in a name. Iris is also lovely, but a little overdone at this point, so I think Ira is my fallback.Sisters for Asa and Ira: Naomi and Vashti. Either born in 1850 or 2015.

I like both, but I think that Asa has more teasing potential. The song about Ira Hayes is sad, but, after serving at Iwo Jima, it is no wonder he had PTSD. I still think that Ira is more usable. The fictional siblings were born in 1907 in a rural area. The sisters are Lenore and Geraldine.

There are THREE one year old Iras in my facebook mom group (out of ~500 babies). I think it's has grown on me. Asa is also okay, but I like Ira a little more at the moment. Not in love with either.
let's make the sibset: Ira, Asa, Eve, and Ori

Definitely Asa. I love the name, whereas Ira reminds me of the word ire / anger (Dies Irae) in Latin, and in general looks more incomplete than Asa. Asa and Ira would have sisters named Esther, Damaris, and Susannah. They would have been born in colonial New England. OR Asa and Ira's sisters would be Eva and Una, modern day.

Asa, since Ira is anger in Latin.

I don’t like either of these names as they look rather feminine and sound unattractive, but if I had to choose, I would go with Ira. Probably because I don’t like the “ay” part in Asa.As for a sister, that’s easy: Asra or Isra!
Or, if you prefer a Hebrew name: Ayla, Ela, or Ora.

I would use Asa and pair it with James. That way I could call him AJ. Or maybe Ace.Honestly they're both ugly sounding names and are too Biblical for me as a non Christian. They also sound a little sleazy.Couples don't need matching names?? Asa could be married to a Japanese woman and Ira could be married to an Italian man? Let's go with 1700s America. Asa and Rachel
Ira and Abigail

I thought that I should have asked for sister's names and not wives, and this response has persuaded me. Didn't mean any harm. :)
