[Opinions] Jezebel
What do you think? Nicknames? Middle names? Is it tolerable to you or just horrid?

I don’t like it for a child but it’s okay for a cat.
Only usable for a pet, the associations are too negative.
Too Evil
exactly
No way, no how! Horrible Biblical connotations, so I wouldn’t go anywhere near the name personally!
Terrible
I kinda like it.
IMO there was enough messing around with meanings and names in the ancient world, that it's probably the same name as Isabel anyway.
But it's too much of a statement to actually use - too prone to misinterpretation.

I agree with others that it's unusable, but I want to point out that under the comments for the name, someone who claims to be named Jezebel left a comment on 6/11. What she said is a mixed bag. Assuming she was telling the truth about being named Jezebel, if you seriously like the name, it might be worth looking at.
There are a lot of different connotations around the name at this point in history. Are you familiar with the blog Jezebel?
No. What does it talk about?
It's like a feminist blog with the tagline: "Celebrity, Sex, Fashion for Women. Without Airbrushing." One of their tenants is to never say disparaging things about women's weight. They seem to call out a lot of online publications or media sources that alter women's images or that mishandle issues related to violence towards women.
It branched off from the website Gawker, which commented on lots of celebrity and pop culture issues.
You might be interested in looking at the Wikipedia article about it. The Wikipedia article also mentions an African-American stereotype around the name Jezebel. Someone suggested that this is what the name of the blog references -- as a way of taking back the stereotype, apparently-- but there was no confirmation source for that.
So, a lot going on there.

I've also heard "Jezebel" as a negative , racist, stereotype for a seductive, hyper-sexualized black woman in opposition to the "Mammy" stereotype. Definitely a lot going on, and, even with attempts at reappropriation, not a great name to give a child.
Maybe as a middle name?
Cool. Thanks, I will.
It might sound exotic and alluring, and it does, but I think we can all agree that naming a child after an evil queen who was eaten by dogs isn’t exactly the best idea. Jez would be a cute nickname, though.
It's as intolerable as Judas, and I'm not religious at all. They are ugly words used to insult people, whatever you might interpret their original Biblical bearers to be. At this stage, naming a child either one would smack of being deliberately provocative and attention-seeking and the kid would always come out the loser in that little bit of parental defiance.
Agree!
