Romain is a Montreal native who makes a living selling his paintings - he met Danish nurse Mynte after a trip to A&E with a broken leg (which, luckily, didn't stop him painting). They live together in a two bedroom apartment and got married recently.

When Sophie is a year old, Mynte discovers that Romain was in fact having an affair with another artist. Although he swears he's no longer seeing her, Mynte tells him they're over and asks Romain to move out.

Mynte, trying to deal with the stress of being a working single mother and finalising her divorce from Romain, takes up yoga.

Sophie is excited to have a little brother, sad not to be seeing her dad as often, and a little bit confused as to why no one understands her when she speaks French anymore.

Romain and Océane begin writing a book together about their own experiences of the Montreal art scene.

Mynte and Lukas decide to follow their hearts and move to the city of Heraklion on the island of Crete - they enroll Sophie in an international school, as they feel that an education primarily in Greek would be too much, considering Sophie's fluency in French, English, and Dutch.
Year 10 - Montreal, Canada | Heraklion, Greece
Romain and Océane have finished their book, but can't agree on a title - the argument drags out for several weeks.
Mynte returns to Denmark for several weeks after the death of her mother.
Year 11 - Mont-Tremblant, Canada | Heraklion, Greece
Desiring a change of pace after Océane's recovery from cancer, the Carons move to the town of Mont-Tremblant in Quebec.
A flood devastates the family's home in Heraklion, forcing them to stay elsewhere for the best part of a year while they repair the property. The upheaval is difficult for everyone - Sophie has had enough moving for a good few years, Marius is upset that many of his things have been lost, and 3-year-old Emma doesn't really like anything.
Year 12 - Mont-Tremblant, Canada | Heraklion, Greece
As they have a garden now they live in Mont-Tremblant, Romain and Océane agree to get Théa a puppy.
