I'm in favor. I don't see it as old-ladyish anymore. If it's dated, it's just in the sense that I picture it on a young character in fiction about the 1920s.
I proposed it as a name for our daughter, back in 2006. My husband said it'd be a "statement" and I guess he meant he thought it was unfashionable. I'd be happy if Edith was her name today, though.
I wonder if one reason people don't go for it is because it's pretty blatantly Germanic, like Mildred.
