My wife and I are thinking of naming our daughter Ela, which in Polish is short for Elzbieta. I think Ela would be pronounced EL-a.

My name is Ela, and it is short for Elanor, a name which comes from The Lord of the Rings, a made up name by Tolkien, as far as I know... and yes, that is how mine is pronounced.

It's pronounced exactly the same as the now popular Ella.

I believe EL-a is indeed correct

But I'm not a Polish speaker, so I can't be 100% certain.

As for opinions about the name Ela itself, that belongs on the Name Opinions board only.
