It's been so common that I don't think the religious association's strong.
I used to strongly dislike it, because of Peter Pan complex and Peter Pettigrew and petering out.
But there's also Spiderman and Quicksilver, and I like Pete, plus I think Peter makes a nice middle name sometimes.
