Autumn is a Toronto native who met Czech hockey player Sebastián when she was treating him after a particulary nasty injury in training three years ago. They quickly hit it off and got married earlier this year. (I have now realised I know nothing about ice hockey, oops.)

Autumn, after feeling unwell for several weeks, decides to go to the doctor - what follows is several trips to the hospital, a solemn conversation with the doctor, and, eventually, a cancer diagnosis. A few days after Petra's first birthday, she passes away, leaving Sebastián a devastated single father of four children. His sister, Karolina, who lives nearby, is a massive help, but it's still very hard for everyone.
Year 7 - Brno, Czechia
Sebastián and the kids move back to his home town of Brno, where they stay near to Sebastián's parents. They're able to care for the children while he goes back to work as a journalist and Lukas starts primary school.
Year 8 - Brno, Czechia
Sebastián receives a much needed pay rise at work. Meanwhile, Lukas and Leo fight because Lukas thinks Leo has been clinging to him too much at school.
