I like Gil (Hebrew) by itself, and I like Gilbert more, when I pretend it's related to that.
I think Gilbert's more serious than Gordon and less stuffy than Albert. They all seem about the same age (elderly), but Gilbert is easiest to imagine young.
There are lots of names I like only because I've grown familiar with them via pop culture references. For example, probably the only reason I'm somewhat fond of Harry / Harriet is because of Harry Potter, Harriet the Spy, and a children's book about Harriet Tubman; I think I'd hate those names, otherwise.
