[Opinions] Re: French masculine names
in reply to a message by Felie
André - reminds me of old colleague. Although a nice enough man, I’ve never taken to his name.
Walter (vahl-TER) - I’d never guess the prn. Not keen on it. Too old fashioned.
Ismaël - reminds me immediately of Moby Dick. I’d like to see this name more often.
Jérôme - Jérôme makes me think of the song. Good, solid, handsome name.
Cyril (see-REEL) - I really dislike the prn! Not keen at all!
Léo - A soft name for a man, Despite the meaning I don’t thinks it’s very musculine name. I’d prefer as nn for a girl.
Jean-Baptiste - Ah French double names! There’s something about them that I love. Jean is okay, love Bapstiste!
Tomas (taw-MA) - I like the prn, not keen on the name. A bit boring.
Ousmane - looks Moroccan, not French? Not keen on it.
Yves - Saint Laurent. A fashionable name. LOVE!
Patrick (pa-TREEK) - With this prn I’d spell it differently (Patrique?). I don’t like it.
Mahamadou - African name? Not keen on this spelling but I like the sp Mamadou.
Eddy - Eddy is the cool dude. Somehow it makes think of a Fonsie look-a-like. Biker jacket, Harley, Rock & Roll.
Michel - Feminine sound, but I like it as it’s the name of a friend.
Alexandre - Alexander The Great. Strong name, but there are so many Alexander’s out there that it’s lost it’s power. I’d prefer Alexei
César - Reminds me of the dog food. Cute name for a dog, not for a human being.
Idriss - again I think Northern African? It rings a bell, the name of a French Actor perhaps? I quite like, but wouldn’t use it.
Didier - I’ve known a Didier who went by Didi. A name I might add to my list. It seems similar to Dieter which I like.
Pascal - Reminds me of the Catholic Church and Easter. Although I don’t have anything against either I don’t like the name.
Kamel - Camel. Not very attractive.
Gaëtan - No idea how to prn this. Gae seems very feminine.
Antoine - ahh i’m kinda in love this name. I could see this as the hero in romantic novel. The new Darcy or Heathcliff.
Lionnel - Much better than Léo! Not keen on the double n’s. I can see this on a quarterback or another sports star.
Momo (Mouhamed) - Very cool nickname! I like!
Fred - Fred Weasley. I love it because of him.
Ghassan - yuck!
Aurélien - A character of a French movie I love. Hence I like the name. A bit difficult to prn however.
Francis - Wasn’t this a character in the Tin Tin movie? It reminds me of (good) pirates.
Aymen - What you say after a prayer.
Dominique - Feminine.
