In over 10 years of working in child care, I have known one young Bruce and one young Patrick. I'm think of them as I'm giving my opinion as it makes both names are quite evenly matched. Little Bruce suited his name but it was a heavy and harsh name for him as a baby which "Brucie" didn't soften all that much. Patrick is already a softer name to start with and little Patrick gets lots of nicknames, my favourite of which is "Patchy".
Patrick is not a name I would use but I definitely prefer it over Bruce. I just find Bruce such an abrupt word whereas Patrick has a bit more to it.

Patrick. I actually have always really liked this name, I just hate the nicknames. Pat and Rick and Ricky are extremely ugly, but I think Patrick is very handsome.
Bruce is just, ugly, blah, has a big nose and is clumsy.
ETA: there is actually a young boy in my sons guitar class named Bruce. Probably about 13-15. I was very surprised to hear it.

Between those choices, easily Patrick. It's a fairly decent name that suits ALL ages. Bruce on the hand...extremely dated, very unnatractive and reminds me of the word, "bruise." The images that the name conjures up also aren't pleasant. For the life of me I can't understand why this name is still on the charts. Honestly.
Patrick's a name I wouldn't mind actually using, at least for a mn. Bruce is okay, but it's not a name I'd actually consider giving to a person.
