[Opinions] Poppy
Wdyt of Poppy?

It's okay. It seems a little cutesy to me, but maybe it gives that impression less in Britain, where I understand it is more common. It would be a good nickname, I think, though I'm not sure what for.
I love it, it's a fave of mine and definitely a name I would consider using. I know a lot of people on here don't like it and find it really juvenile and also hate the grandfather and drug associations. None of that bothers me, because I think the flowers are lovely and that's all I think of.
I referred to my child as Poppy when I was pregnant. she was the size of a poppy seed when we had our first ultrasound.
It was fine for a fetus but there is no way I would have used it in real life. It feels very insubstantial. My mom actually called me and asked me if I was planning to naming the child Poppy, terrified that I was. She was very relieved and I said no.

I like the idea of that flower as a name concept.
But I think the word for the flower just sounds way too stupid to be a name. The sound of it cancels out the concept.
And it's irritatingly trendy lately.

Poppies are one of my favourite flowers :)
It’s perhaps a bit whimsical, a pet name. Something my boyfriend would call me because of my red hair (and I love it).

I love it, but it's a guilty pleasure for me since I call my grandpa "papa" and it sounds too close.
It reminds me of my state flower, so it makes me happy. :)
It amazes me how common Poppy is in Britain. It was never really used in a significant way in the USA until just recently (British invasion round #3?). It sounds like a childish nickname like Poppet or Buttercup. It's hard to take it seriously.
Many people call their grandfather Poppy. That’s the first thing I think of. That and the opioid epidemic. I usually love flower names, but this one is problematic.
Yeah, I called my maternal grandfather Pop, my children called my father Pop, and my great-grandfather was called, by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Poppy Last Name. But when I once brought it up here in the context of this name, there were many who said they'd never heard of Poppy as name for a grandfather, and few who said it was the name their grandfather had gone by.
But obviously "grandfather" is the first thing I think of too.

I can't even find the words to describe how awful and ridiculous I think this name is.
nice for a flower, not as a girls name
