[Opinions] No Birth Announcements in Newspaper
My local newspaper hasn't had birth announcements in it for a number of years, and there aren't any on its website either. Have other newspapers stopped printing birth announcements too?

This is common because abductors were using them as classifieds.
Parents can still choose to put them in the newspaper, but it’s not recommended.

Our little weekly free newspaper has birth announcements. The child's name, and the parents' names. Or name, sometimes just the mother's.
Yes, a lot don't.
I'm told that in the mid-20th century, many newspapers printed lists of people who'd been admitted to the hospital, names and addresses included. Obviously a very bad thing to do on a number of levels and and I don't know of any paper that would do this today.
I think probably an individual parent could run a birth announcement in the paper, like buying a classified ad.

I get a lot of BAs from local papers and a lot of them stop at random and a lot of hospitals are choosing not to do it publicly either and instead are opting for mom365 announcements with passwords. It's for safety reasons-- infant abduction isn't particularly common but it's supposed to be preventative.
When I was a kid and the newspaper was publishing them less and less, my mom said something about safety concerns. I don’t know if it was something she heard on the news or what, but I guess, since it gives parent names and everything, people could look up their address in the phone book (now it would probably be online). It’s an abduction risk.
