Year 0: Beginning
Hilaire is the Roi of the fictional country of D’Or Baie. Roi Hilaire has straight, blond hair and brown eyes. His wife, the Reine Nadège, has wavy, dark brown hair and blue eyes.
Hilaire is the eldest son and heir of the previous king, who died when Hilaire was young. The previous ruler’s marriage had been rife with problems.
Hilaire’s marriage to Nadège is arranged; Nadège is the daughter of lower-ranking nobles.

She is eventually dismissed from her position by Nadège, who cannot bring herself to forgive her former friend. However, the Reine decides to adopt her husband’s bastard son and raise him alongside her children. She makes it clear to everyone that no one can know the truth.
The public, meanwhile, become surprised that the Reine Nadège had another child, another son, just one year after delivering the crown prince. Nonetheless, there is celebration; this new prince is to become the “spare to the throne.”

There are many who hope that there will be plans for a betrothal between Bartek and Alexandrine; that way, a marriage alliance can lead to peace. But it does not happen.

Once there were rumors that Alexandrine would be betrothed to Warta’s heir Bartek. They’ve died off, only to be replaced by rumors that either Alexandrine will be betrothed to Igor (Mikhail is too young for her), or that Marcellin will be betrothed to Svetlana (Oxana is too old for him).
