What do you think of the name Meredith for a girl? I've always liked it even if it isn't my usual style. For some reason, it seems classic-ish / traditional even though it's not (for a girl). I've seen people comment that Meredith is a "mean girl name" or "snobby" multiple times, but for some reason that doesn't bother me.

I like it - especially if s/he uses Mary as a nickname or short name.

Meredith as a "mean girl" name might be entirely due to the character Meredith Blake in the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap, who was a total gold-digger. Personally speaking, though, Meredith is one of the few names ending in "-th" that I actually like, though I think it works best as a middle name. I had Diana Meredith as a combo for a spell. I also thought about Yasmine Meredith, Naomi Meredith, and Jane Meredith.

I enjoy Naomi Meredith and Jane Meredith.

I like it because it gives choices. I like the nn "Mer" pronounced [mair] like mare. But the full name Meredith is great if she needs to sound more dignified, professionally.

I like it, but am not strongly drawn to it. I perceive it as warm, rather than “mean” or “snobby”. Sarah Jessica Parker played a character by this name in the film, “The Family Stone”, who is initially perceived by the Stone family as cold/snobby, but isn’t really. Meredith Vera is the only combo I have for it.

I like it. I don't think it's a mean girl name, I think it's kind of sweet.

I've only known one person named Meredith, and she was a kind and friendly person, so that's the impression I have, of the name.

I really love the name Meredith. I'm not sure why, it's just a simple, pretty name that's familiar and seems timeless

Meredith is better by far than either Mary or Edith, (yes, I know it isn't actually a mashup) but I don't really care for it. It feels like the somewhat mousy member of a preppy 1980's private school clique. Hillary is the rich mean girl, Mallory is the shallow, flaky one, and Meredith is the mousy one who nobody really knows why she's in this group.

I also get the 80s boarding school vibe from it. I definitely see it as a contemporary of Hillary and maybe Samantha or Blair?

Not at all snobbish where I come from. I was at school with a very pleasant one who had a German ln and a sister named Bronwen. And it beats Meriadoc if you want the nn Merry!
I'm sure Pie could confirm this: in Wales it's meRIDith and male, or a ln. Not at all sure if they use it for girls there. My friend was MEridith, and another friend had the ln Meredith and pronounced it the same way. Could just be South Africans being their own sweetly insular selves ...
