The past five years have been tumultuous for the Priddy family. A year after the birth of Simon, Viola bore a daughter, Hester. Sadly, tragedy struck the following year, and little Simon fell ill. No apothecary or man of physic could save him. It was a dagger through his parents' hearts. That same year, Alban attracted the wrong attention, from the wrong group of people. He stood his ground when he probably should have run. And it cost him his life. His glassblower shop was also ransacked, and the city watch had little means to bring justice (either through clueless-ness or fear). But the people responsible for Alban Thrussell's murder did not know about his close connection to the Priddy family - specifically, that he and Paul Priddy's eldest daughter, Elinor, wished to marry. Paul didn't forget, or forgive, this outrage. In perhaps the darkest chapter of his life, Paul and a couple trustworthy men set about capturing and (quite gruesomely) killing Alban's killers. Their own grisly deaths became known round London, and thus Paul let the city know he was still not a man to be crossed. If it weren't for the support of his beloved Tiggy, Paul doubted he could ever have dragged himself out of the deep pit into which he'd fallen. The twins, Nat and Ben, knew exactly what their father had done. Ben realized he wanted no part in his father's underworld, but Nat realized he was strangely... unfazed by the dirtier deeds. While Ben would likely join his older brother Owen in a life on the straight and narrow, Paul recognized Nat as his true heir, and vowed to train him.In the meantime, Nell withdrew into herself. She had planned a whole new life for herself, her future family - she'd even practiced signing "Elinor Thrussell," thinking of herself as "Mistress Alban Thrussell." Now she was alone again. True, she had her parents, and her brothers and little sister, but it wasn't the same. No other man has courted her since. She hasn't let anyone. Paul and Tiggy worry.Over the years Owen (whose father-in-law had taken him under his wing for the mercantile business) and Viola, who grieved over and healed from Simon's death, had two other children after Hester: Ezekiel and Orpha. Strictly Biblical names seemed to give Viola greater confidence in their constitution. Owen doubted his wife could ever cme back from the death of another of their children, God forbid. In Ben's pursuance of the "straight and narrow," he met Lady Lydia Crane, daughter of Esmé Crane, Earl Yarbrough. At 24 years of age, she had been placed "on the shelf" for repelling suitors with her wit and independence. But Ben was no lord of the manor. While his less than savory origins would normally have sent Lord Yarbrough laughing away, he didn't have the room to bargain now: his oldest daughter wasn't getting any younger, and her lack of a marriage could hurt her younger sisters' chances. So he let his daughter marry the rich, vulgar young man - more like commanded it. So far, Ben and Lydia's marriage is cooler than it should be.Meanwhile, Titus is trying to figure out a way to reach the stars, and Isabeau demands to know why her parents named her "Is a bow pretty?" and insists everybody call her Maud.***Please rate my personal name lists:www.behindthename.com/pnl/69381
