Year 1
When Tara's overbearing boss starts requiring her to work 12 hour days without extra pay, as well as weekends, she's had enough, so she quits and begins searching for another job.
Nate [25] and Tara [25]
--
Year 2
Tara takes a new job that comes with a pay raise of $10,000 a year, and also only requires her to work 9-5 M-F.
Nate [26] and Tara [26]
--
Year 3
Nate and Tara welcome identical twin girls! Marina Sayuri and Helena Sakura have curly brown hair and blue eyes.
Nate [27] and Tara [27]: Marina and Helena [nb]
--
Year 4
The doctors slowly realize that Helena is partially deaf in both ears. This comes as a shock, but Nate and Tara immediately begin learning American Sign Language, because it's likely the condition will worsen over time. They begin signing to the twins, along with speaking English and Japanese. If they do this properly, both girls will be trilingual.
Nate [28] and Tara [28]: Marina and Helena [1]
--
Year 5
Nate is promoted to Associate Professor, which comes with a significant pay raise.
Nate [29] and Tara [29]: Marina and Helena [2]
--
Year 6
The Krantzes welcome a baby boy! Gabriel Hideki has straight brown hair and blue eyes.
Nate [30] and Tara [30]: Marina and Helena [3], Gabriel [nb]
--
Year 7
When Tara's company downsizes, she is laid off. She and Nate agree that she will stay home with the kids, at least until Marina and Helena go to Kindergarten, because Nate's salary can support them all until then.
Nate [31] and Tara [31]: Marina and Helena [4], Gabriel [1]
--
Year 8
Well, maybe not, after they welcome another baby boy. Oliver Osamu has curly brown hair and blue eyes, just like his older sisters.
Nate [32] and Tara [32]: Marina and Helena [5], Gabriel [2], Oliver [nb]
--
Year 9
When Tara's grandmother passes, she is left the family restaurant. She was shocked, as she hadn't really been involved in the restaurant since college. She takes on the new project with grace, though, keeping the current staff, and revolutionizing their marketing strategies, as well as creating a children's coloring menu, with input from Marina and Helena. Within months, business is at an all-time high, and Tara knows this is what she was really meant to do.
Nate [33] and Tara [33]: Marina and Helena [6], Gabriel [3], Oliver [1]
--
Year 10
After testing that no one in the family is allergic, the Krantzes adopt a Bichon Frise, who they name Chihiro, after the main character in the movie Spirited Away.
Nate [34] and Tara [34]: Marina and Helena [7], Gabriel [4], Oliver [2], Chihiro the Bichon Frise [1]
--
Year 11
After just a year, Chihiro developed a fatal brain tumor, and they were forced to put her down. The kids were absolutely devastated, and Nate and Tara decided that they probably shouldn't get another dog for a while.
Nate [35] and Tara [35]: Marina and Helena [8], Gabriel [5], Oliver [3]
--
Year 12
Nate and Tara are apprehensive when Marina and Helena's friend's cat has kittens and they ask for one, but they adopt one anyway, praying this pet won't die as quickly as the last one had. They name her Emi.
Nate [36] and Tara [36]: Marina and Helena [9], Gabriel [6], Oliver [4], Emi the cat [nb]
--
Year 13
Tara's youngest cousin, Akira Cho, moves in with the Krantzes for a year after finishing college, while saving up to be able to buy a small house. Kiki offers free babysitting whenever they need it, and is a great cook, so her presence is more than welcome on most days.
Nate [37] and Tara [37]: Marina and Helena [10], Gabriel [7], Oliver [5], Emi the cat [1]
--
Year 14
For their 11th birthday, Marina and Helena receive a hamster they name Yuki.
Nate [38] and Tara [38]: Marina and Helena [11], Gabriel [8], Oliver [6], Emi the cat [2], Yuki the hamster [nb]
--
Year 15
This year, Helena begins attending the Washington School for the Deaf, two and a half hours away. She boards there during the week, and spends weekends at home with her family.
Nate [39] and Tara [39]: Marina and Helena [12], Gabriel [9], Oliver [7], Emi the cat [3], Yuki the hamster [1]
--
Year 16
Nate and Tara are shocked when they find out they're expecting again, even moreso when they discover it's another set of twins. Michael Jun has straight brown hair and green eyes, and Amelie Sora has straight auburn hair and gray eyes.
Nate [40] and Tara [40]: Marina and Helena [13], Gabriel [10], Oliver [8], Michael and Amelie [nb], Emi the cat [4], Yuki the hamster [2]
--
Year 17
Marina, who'd begun figure skating eight years ago, falls wrong on a triple lutz attempt and breaks her ankle. She's devastated, as she had a real shot at making Nationals this year, but now has to sit out the qualifying competitions.
Nate [41] and Tara [41]: Marina and Helena [14], Gabriel [11], Oliver [9], Michael and Amelie [1], Emi the cat [5], Yuki the hamster [3]
--
Year 18
Nate is promoted to full professorship, gaining tenure and another significant raise.
Nate [42] and Tara [42]: Marina and Helena [15], Gabriel [12], Oliver [10], Michael and Amelie [2], Emi the cat [6]
--
Year 19
Nate gets another, smaller, raise when the entire university increases pay.
Nate [43] and Tara [43]: Marina and Helena [16], Gabriel [13], Oliver [11], Michael and Amelie [3], Emi the cat [7]
--
Year 20
Soon after she graduates high school, early, at just 17, Helena discovers that she's pregnant. After many long discussions, she and her boyfriend, Stephen Anthony Jenkins, decide to keep the baby. She delivers a healthy baby girl on December 24th, and they name her Natalia Fuyuko. They rent a little apartment down the street from the Krantzes, and Nate will take Natalia in with Michael and Amelie to the university daycare every day. It will depend on his mood, as to whether he corrects anyone who tells him his children are beautiful and/or well-behaved.
Nate [44] and Tara [44]: Marina and Helena [17], Gabriel [14], Oliver [12], Michael and Amelie [4], Emi the cat [8]
Helena [17] and Steve [18]: Natalia [nb]
--
Year 30
When Marina switches to pairs skating at 19, her career takes off. She makes Nationals, finally, and they somehow manage to place third, sending them scrambling to their first international assignment to get the score requirements for the Four Continents Championships. The next year, they're second at Nationals, and get to go to Worlds, where they place an astonishing sixth, with the other US team placing fifth, qualifying three US pair teams to go to the Olympics. They win Nationals, win a team silver medal at the Olympics, where they place a very close fourth in their individual event. They win bronze at the World Championships a month later. Her partner, Noah Alexey Lagunov, proposes at the end of their last Stars On Ice show, and they plan a long engagement, eventually getting married after the next Olympics (another silver team, and bronze individual), when she's 25 and he's 27. They retire, and have fraternal twin girls, Alexandra Helena and Anastasia Gabrielle, a year later.
Helena, Steve, and Natalia move to Washington DC when Natalia is 2, where Helena and Steve attended Gallaudet University, eventually becoming an ASL interpreter in schools (Helena), and a researcher specializing in hearing aids (Steve). Two years after they graduate, they welcome a baby boy, Nicholas Masaru. A year later, they welcome identical twin boys, Nolan Ryouichi and Neal Yamato. None of their children are deaf or hard of hearing, but they all grow up learning ASL (and Japanese) from their parents anyway.
Gabriel attended the University of Washington, where his father works, played hockey for the school, and graduated with a degree in journalism. Two years later, he and his girlfriend, Emmaline Margery Hampson, a journalist originally from Australia, live together, still in Seattle with their turtle, Calla.
Oliver lives in California after graduating from California Institute of the Arts with a degree in Cinematography and Film/Video Production. He received his first job, working on a sci-fi TV show. His boyfriend, Anatoli Lavrentyevich Volkov, graduated from UCLA with a degree in financial mathematics, and is currently working on his MBA.
Michael and Amelie are 14, both freshmen in high school. Michael is on the school's varsity soccer team, while also playing on a Seattle United team. Amelie followed in her sister's footsteps in figure skating, but in ice dance. She and her partner, Maxim Isidore Fisher, have been to Nationals four years in a row, and this year competed internationally twice.
