It's been five years, and in that time, the plague came to the country. Formaggio Estate was pretty far from the villages, but apparently, it wasn't far enough. Both the Lord and Lady's newborn son and DH2 and DW2's newborn daughter got sick and died. But eventually, the ordeal was over and life went back to normal. The Lord and Lady had twin girls and a boy and DH2 and DW2 welcomed a girl and a boy.

Alessandro and Catalina had twin girls whose names reflect rebirth and God’s blessing upon them after the plague, Simona and Novella. The next year a boy followed, Vincenzo Felice Prospero, a name filled with the hope and bravado they need after the struggles of the past five years. Daniele and Stella welcomed a boy and a girl, Niccola and Tessa.

Catalina's nightmare had come true. She went into the village one day and found the bodies of the dead and dying lying in the streets. She ran home immediately and quarantined the estate. No one was allowed in and no one was allowed out. Until a sick courier came to Formaggio Estate. Catalina was scared, but she was also a generally nice person, so she and Lucia cared for him. What else could she do? Miraculously, he recovered, and he agreed to deliver Catalina's letter to Salvadore and Fiora.
Catalina was worried that caring for the courier was risky, and she was right. Some of the children on the estate (with their weak immune systems and all) got sick and died. Both families were very sad, but neither Lucia nor Catalong blamed each other. They knew letting a sick courier in the Estate couldevelopment have this effect. But it hit little Madalena the hardest. She loved Agnese and Prospero, and she wasn't really familiar with death.
Eventually, Madalena recovered, and she got some new little siblings as well. Liona and Elena are identical twins, and Alessandro and Catalina aren't sure if they've kept their names or accidentally switched them.
The families received a letter from Salvadore and Fiora, too. They're welcomed a daughter and two sons. The youngest has died, but they're, on the whole, pretty happy.

The time the plague arrived hit both families hard. The Crivellis losing Lavinia and the da Vigos losing Niccola and several other families on the estate losing other family members, a deep sorrow fellmiver Formaggio for awhile... until both Anastasia and Tullia discovered they were pregnant again. Giving birth within hours of each other, the estate had three new faces to welcome and cherish. Life became mostly bearable once again.
