I actually think it's really pretty, but here in Australia, it would most definitely get shortened to Mel and I'm not a fan of that.

I like it, but it's not my favorite Mel name. (I also don't know if I prefer Melina or Melana)

Yes. I've liked it for years, and I would seriously consider it if I had a daughter. I like Elina as well.
