Family 1
Alessandro “Sandro” was a merchant in the city. He was fairly wealthy and everyone was surprised when he married a penniless orphan. Catalina “Lina” saved his life when he fell into the river one night while walking the short way back home (he sent his carriage on, wanting to enjoy the air and clear his head. He can’t swim). Lina fell for Sandro’s sense of humor and apparent kind nature when expressing his genuine thanks, which surprised her especially given his obvious fine clothing (she didn’t mind how the fine clothing, now wet, showed off his athletic build either). For his part, Sandro fell for Lina’s unhesitating daring, how she looked at him and spoke to him as if he were a real person and not just some stuck-up nobleman, and her green eyes in the moonlight (he didn’t mind how her now-wet dress clung to her generous curves either). They've been married for about a year now and they're expecting their first child! Recently, Alessandro’s grandfather, Lord Agnolo died and he happened to be next in line to inherit his estate. He was hesitant to pack up and move to the country, but Lina pointed out that plague outbreaks have been frequent in the city and it would be better to raise a family where there is less plague. She convinced him eventually, so they gave the house to Sandro’s sister and her family and moved to Formaggio Estate. On the way to the estate they discussed their child’s potential name. They want them to sound regal, and to contain elements of both of theirs (hence Alessio and Isabetta for Alessandro and Lisabetta) and also a sense of the new adventure they’re embarking (hence Benvenuto “welcome” and Novella “new”).
Family 2
DH and DW are peasants living at Formaggio Estate. They've only been married for a few months. They've lived here their entire life and worked for the Lord Agnolo when he was alive. They're interested to see what the new Lord and Lady will be like. They liked Lord Agnolo, who allowed them to marry (she’s one of the ladies’ maids and he is apprentice falconer) where some other Lords would not. Some held to rules that the house staff were not allowed to marry at all, and others would have balked at an upper house servant wedding one of the outside staff, even given the falconer’s prized position. Lord Agnolo, on the other hand, changed with the times and was just grateful that two of his loyal servants wanted to settle down together, which benefited the household. The couple is nervous that the new Lord and Lady, being city folk, will be more strict, but hopeful given that their marriage is a bit similar to their own.
