[Opinions] Rain
My cousin is having a baby girl next month and is planning on naming her Rain. Mother's name is Stormi so I get the connection. What are your thoughts?

I like Rain, but I like it better as a middle name. I also like Rayne.

Well, I used to think it was silly-sounding, but I am coming around. My cousin named her daughter Ember Rain a few years ago. Then a foster child joined our family whose name is Wynter-Rain. Then another foster child joined our family whose middle name is Shania April Rain. My friend named her son Rainer (they call him Rainy). And I met a Reine-Divine as well. All of a sudden it doesn't seem so silly anymore. :) Plus for your cousin, the connection is kinda neat. (And cutesy, cheesy, but that's okay too)

I like Rain but I think Stormi is cheesy. (Also, I prefer Rain as a middle name because it works well with a lot of longer first names)

I’m not a big fan of Rain as a name. It just reminds me of gloomy weather. It’s not horrible, though.

I think Rain is a bit weird for a name. But if you are looking for a weather themed name, there are a lot of nice ones like Tempest (storm), Misty, Merriweather, Sunny, Iris (rainbow), and Lumi (snow). I hope that helped. Or, if you really like Rain, Raina is less obvious.

I think the entire family reads too much V.C. Andrews. But I’m sure she’ll be a lovely little girl and wear her name well, whatever it ends up being.

I don't think it matters what her mother's name is.
I wouldn't feel it was any different to be named Rain, whether or not my mom was named Stormi.
I guess I'd get used to it in real life, and it would just become a sound. And it's a pleasant sounding word. But to me the word rain is not quite namey enough to be appealing as a name to me. It's like Grey or Winter ... sure it can be beautiful, and necessary. But it's not a positive symbol in itself, you have to put a spin on it.

Feeble at best. Stormi, especially with that spelling, lacks distinction, and followed by Rain it's simply silly, like a preschooler naming her dolls.I suppose it could have been worse: Sunshine, say, or Rainbow.

It's a pleasant enough sound, Rayne and Raine seem better since I don't like word names so Rain isn't a spelling I'd choose. With the mother's name, it's way too cutesy and a bit childish sounding...like a child would name her dolls not an actual baby of a woman.

I think Rain is a decent enough name (I personally prefer the spelling of 'Raine' myself) but I don't care for the connection. I think to use the name would be silly in that scenario. I mean it would just make people highly suspect that her other children's names (if anymore) will be weather-related as well.
I mean at least they don't SOUND similar however. At least it's not a Katelyn and Railynn situation. (Woman I knew from school named her daughter this a few years back. Needless to say, I'm not a fan of the name or the fact that they come across as more 'obnoxiously matchy' twin names rather than a mother and daughter set).

I like Rain/Raine. But it's a little too much for me when the mom's name is Stormi.

It reminds me of Canadian musician Raine Maida. The name sounds silly and that Stormi and Rain connection sounds bad.

It reminds me of Misty of Chincoteague. Misty's foal was named Stormy.
In other words, I think the continuation of the weather theme is silly and rather childish, like My Little Ponies or something.

The father wanted her name to be Sereniti (Serenity with an "i" at the end because of the spelling of Stormi with an "i" at the end but she pushed for Rain. I much prefer Sereniti.
