[Opinions] Henny and Tulip
My big sister got married on Saturday, and these were the names of two little girls at the wedding.
Henny is the 4yo daughter of my sister's friend. She has a 6mo brother named Bertie.
Tulip is the 7yo daughter of my new brother-in-law's cousin. She has a 3yo brother named er, Oliver, which is disappointingly tame in comparison.
In regards to Henny, I mistakenly assumed that it was short for Henrietta/Henriette, but no, Henny is the given name. I think it's cute as a short form, but not keen as a given name.
As for Tulip, I can't decide if I like it or not.
Any thoughts/opinions on these two?
NB: Sadly, these were the only two interesting names I discovered, I was most disappointed.

Ugh, I typed out a whole response and it was refusing to let me send for some reason. Of course it’s the one thing I’ve deleted off my notes!
Anyway, I like the vintage feel Henny has, but I did start thinking hens pretty quickly. As much as I love nickname names as firsts, I don’t think I’d use Henny, but it’s fun to see. I used to have Tulip on my list, and I’m considering adding her back in. I like the sound and imagery, and I feel she has more personality and substance than I once thought.

Love tulip think it's fab for a daughter.
There is an MP in parliament with that name (uk)

Ooh, I didn’t know that! That’s awesome!
My MP! Who is bloody awful!!
Yes there is, Tulip Siddiq, and that was my first thought when I heard it.
She carried on the rare floral name theme with her daughter, who is named Azalea (which I much prefer to Tulip).

Henny would almost be tolerable as a nn for Henrietta; as a given name, it honestly sounds ridiculous. It's very insubstantial and is basically naming a child after a chicken. Bertie is also disappointingly insubstantial.
I dislike Tulip as well. The "-lip" syllable is unattractive, and the "tool-" syllable isn't much better. There are prettier flower names to choose from imo. I agree that Tulip and Oliver really don't go together, style wise.

Henny-really, no. As you say, there are actual names that Henny could be a nick-name for. Doesn't pass the test-"All rise, for the honourable Henny Lastame!"
Tulip-I can't decide. I don't know why not, tulips are beautiful flowers, and as usual as roses, daisies, or marigolds, which are actual names. Lily!Jasmine!

I thought Henny sounded cringey not that long ago, mainly because of the similarity to 'hen' (slightly offensive slang) and Henry (sounds like someone can't pronounce Rs), but now I only slightly dislike it, because I met a woman named Hennessey recently and thought that was pleasant.
I can't say I like Tulip. I say it as 'tool-up', but I dislike the sound of 'too-lip' at least as much. Maybe it could grow on me, though. Idk.

I like Henny as a nickname for Henrietta, even though I don’t even like Henrietta very much, I just think Henny is too informal as a given name.
I wish Bertie was short for something too, because while cute on a child, it sounds too cutesy on an adult imo. Bertie kind of sounds like “birdie” as well.
I don’t like Tulip. Sounds too fairy princess to me. I do like Oliver, especially Oli / Ollie.

I used to like Henry before it got popular especially here and I really don't like Tulip. It sounds silly and immature.
