Every time a match Alice didn't like neared an agreement, she sabotaged it. She wanted the perfect man: tall, handsome, a king. She wanted someone to sweep her off her feet, and any old baron or count wouldn't do. When King Valentine of France lost his wife, she urged her stepmother to talk her father into throwing Valentine into the mix. It just so happened that Valentine's advisors loved the match.
So far, however, Alice's romantic ideals have not come to pass. Still in mourning for his first wife, Valentine spends his time moping around the house instead of sweeping Alice off her feet. They have been married for over a year and they have yet to consummate the marriage. Alice has told her stepmother that she will give Valentine another year before she asks for an annulment.
Anselm and Katherine are as in love with each other (and as passionate) as when they first met. Their darling Rosalind is eight years old now, and Katherine can hardly believe that she and Anselm had time to get married at all, what with adding another three children to their family in the last five years. She couldn't be happier with her situation.
