Five years ago when Arthur Duke of Brittany laid claim to the throne, King Arthur of England was ready to wage war with the child (and with King Philip II of France) over it. Fortunately, King Arthur became ill suddenly and unable to make the decision. In his indisposition, Queen Nina offered the Duke of Brittany marriage to her daughter, Princess Genevieve and the throne once King Arthur had passed. King Philip advised the child against this given the Wessex Curse and with King Arthur in a weakened state, wanted the Duke to go to war. However, Arthur Duke of Brittany, took Queen Nina up on her offer, content to marry Eve when she came of age and to take the throne at the current King's passing.
Despite being on his deathbed, five years have passed and King Arthur is still alive, much to the disgruntlement of King Philip. Arthur Duke of Brittany, however, is happy. He and Eve have found genuine love and are due to be married at the turn of her 18th birthday. Unbeknownst to the King, the Duke also gave safe passage to Eve's older sister, Cressida, who is now residing safely in Brittany until the day her father is dead and she can return home.
