Ilyas and Amelia were an unlikely match, to say the least. Ilyas, the quiet, studious Egyptian nursing student, and Amelia, the lively British singer-songwriter who moved to Cairo aged 18 in search of a new life. They met a few months after Amelia moved to Cairo, when she was performing in a restaurant Ilyas frequented. They hit it off quickly, and got married four years later.
Year 1 (2019)

Ilyas and Amelia were surprised when they found out Amelia was pregnant - kids certainly hadn’t been in their plan for another five years or so. However, Wasim quickly becomes the light of their lives, and they love him more than anything.
Year 2 (2020)

The El-Moftys adopt three chickens, whom they name Aramis, Athos, and Porthos.
Year 3 (2021)
Cairo, Egypt
A year after adopting chickens, Amelia finally convinces Ilyas to let her get a cat, whom she names Oreo.
Year 4 (2022)
Cairo, Egypt
Amelia and Ilyas take three-year-old Wasim to see the pyramids for the first time.
Year 5 (2023)
Cairo, Egypt
Ilyas admits that he really loves having a cat, and so they adopt a companion for Oreo, Wilfred. She bonds easily with her new friend.
Year 6 (2024)
Cairo, Egypt
After much, much nagging from Wasim, the El-Moftys find themselves adopting a small, friendly snake, named Destroyer by their son.
Year 7 (2025)
Cairo, Egypt
Amelia is finally signed by a big record label, a childhood dream for her.
Year 8 (2026)
Cairo, Egypt
Although Amelia’s career is at its peak, Ilyas’ has reached a low, after he was laid off following a restructuring of the hospital.
Year 9 (2027)
Cairo, Egypt
All three chickens have sadly passed away - however, the family get three tropical fish, Do, Re, and Mi.
Year 10 (2028)

Amelia and Ilyas had been wanting to add to their family for a while, but had never managed to conceive. They decided that adoption would be a good option. and were delighted to welcome Hadi. He’s a quiet, shy boy who rather clings to the louder, more confident Wasim.
