I like it more for a guy, thb...it'd be similar to Carl (but softer), Kerry (but less whiny), Errol (but less weird/stuffy/anxious), Arrow (but more traditional), or Cairo (but not a place in Egypt).
Carol as feminine makes me think of casserole and perms. I'd give it another decade.
I hope if it does make a comeback, it's popular as unisex.
