A bizarre hybrid, like the front end of a pigeon and the back end of a squirrel.
I laughed so hard I woke the baby up
Thanks a lot!
It feels like somebody liked the name Zoe but felt like the sound was too cutesy and tried to fix it. They were right about the cutesiness, but wrong as all heck about the fix.
And knowing now that it’s the nickname of a youtube star, it sounds like something a creepy stalker fangirl would use, just so that when they meet the celeb they can scream, “I NAMED MY BABY AFTER YOU!!!” right in their face.

Don't like it. I love Zoe, but Zoella is just crap.
I've never heard of it, it sounds made up. Is it like Zola, zo-EE-la or zo-EL-a? I'd guess the latter, which just seems like another -ella elaboration (Annabella, Elizabella, etc) which is not my cup of tea. I like Zola but I'd spell it like that for the right pronunciation. zo-EE-la is even worse than zo-EL-a. or what it's worth I've always really disliked Zoe so it's not surprising to me I don't like this one either. There are worse names out there, but this one is nms.
Zoe is one of my favorite names because it's like, quintessentially feminine (literally a translation of Eve), yet sounds nothing like most typical womens names. and it can give off so many different impressions, it can easily sound harsh or cutesy, strong or delicate, etc.
but Zoella ruins that. it gives the impression that someone didn't think Zoe sounded feminine enough, so they tacked on one of the most boring and frilly girl's name endings.
....ok i just looked it up to find similar names to suggest, and apparently it's from the name Zoellus. so choosing it with that history/meaning in mind is better than just for a frillier twist on Zoe, but it still gives that impression to me. at least it's more interesting than a lot of other -ella names. i feel a bit like a jerk for jumping to conclusions, but i'll still post this because it's my first impression.
