[Opinions] Poppy
What do you think of Poppy?

In the US, there's an annoying singer named Poppy, so no, I don't like it. I also just almost typed Poopy.
I find the flower pretty and I like what it symbolizes. However, the name is far too cutesy and cartoonish for me to use on a real child. I don't hate it on someone else's child the way some on these boards do but I do understand where they are coming from.
It's a GP for me. With a growing number of Spanish speakers in my area, I figure it would get annoying to hear Papi/poppy so often.
I want to like it, because we use it as our symbol of Armistice Day remembrance, which is probably one of the influences on the popularity of the name.
However, I have never warmed to it, because it sounds quite infantile to my ears.
I've always thought it could work as a 'nickname' for Penelope, which would be better than it being used as a given name.
I should stress, I don't dislike it, I just don't like it either!

It feels too informal for me to love it. And I don't love all the p's, either. But I don't hate it either because I do like flower names in general. I could imagine a person who could pull it off.
I love flower names, I really do. But not Poppy uggghh. It’s poopy and grandpas. I really can’t stand it.
It always makes me think of opium.
I think it's a lovely name.
Words cannot express how much I hate this name. Words cannot express the level of my disbelief that it's so popular in the UK.
Words cannot express my level of dismay at seeing it enter the US top thousand for the first time ever in 2016.
Words cannot express how little gratitude I will feel towards the UK if Poppy becomes as popular here as it is there.

It reminds me of opium, but that is because I think they are used to make opium? I also like it, despite that.
Floppy! I'm not keen on flower names as a rule - there are a couple of exceptions - and Poppy came from nowhere, zoomed up the charts and probably won't last.
It could work as a nn for Penelope, which already has some good nn options that she could choose from if Poppy ever seemed too dated or ephemeral.
I've also got a secret dread about poppycock! In English it just means 'rubbish!' or 'nonsense!', and it's the same in Dutch (pappe kak) except that the literal meaning there is 'soft shit'.

I think within the BTN community I am in the minority, because I love the name Poppy. I don't understand how so many people here hate it and find it childish. To me it's just another flower name, so I find it pretty.
Pimples
Its all I can think of. I immediately think of popping pimples, unfortunately. Its a shame because the flower is so pretty and should give me better imagery.
