[Facts] Hs. in front of a German name
I am doing a family research and have found reference from several different resources that show an "Hs" in front of the name. i.e. Hs. Johann Heinrich Straehle What does the Hs. mean? thank you. My email is dkmax@windstream.net

It may possibly be an abbreviation for Hans, the same way English records used Geo and Wm for George and William. https://getsatisfaction.com/familysearch/topics/question-about-german-genealogy-hs?page=1

That appears to be correct, according to this list of 18th-century abbreviations that was made available by a Swiss German state archive:https://staatsarchiv.zh.ch/internet/justiz_inneres/sta/de/ueber_uns/organisation/editionsprojekte/schulumfrage/_jcr_content/contentPar/downloadlist/downloaditems/abk_rzungsverzeichni.spooler.download.1406532461966.pdf/eSUZH_Abk%C3%BCrzungen_2014_07_18.pdf (in German)Also see this list of abbreviations for German baptismal names, which was made available by a Swiss genealogical association:http://www.ghgrb.ch/index.php/de/billeter/tauf-res-rufnamen (in English and German)
