[Opinions] Re: Gavin
in reply to a message by Felie
Around the age of 10 - 12 we had a neighbor boy named Gavin who had just immigrated to the US from Ireland. He was closer to me in age than his younger brother Shane but Gavin was a huge jock who loved hockey and tried too hard to be macho and he was often mean to Shane or me or my sister so we were much better friends with Shane. Also Shane loved to play make believe games with us and he also had a passion for delicious food like me. They also had a baby brother named Ciaran who was too young to play with us. The truth is that Gavin wasn't so bad, sometimes he was mean but sometimes it was just playful teasing and we both loved ice skating although his passion for hockey was a bit over the top. He would rewatch the Mighty Ducks movie over and over again. He was the only Gavin I've actually known more than in passing but I have seen some movies with characters named Gavin. It also makes me think of the Arthurian Knight Gawain and his brother Gareth. Gawain in some stories has major anger issues while Gareth is always portrayed as a nice guy.Personally I mostly love the name Gavin because I love the sound and look of the name, some days I just like it rather than love it. It is in my personal top 20 although lately not too often in my top 10. Gavin is a bit popular, from 2007 - 2009 it was in the top .5% used for boys names in the US and if it was a little less popular I'd probably love it even more.
