[Opinions] Courtney
What do you think of Courtney? I recently watched a documentary with it spelled Kortni (eeew!).

I actually love the name Courtney, but probably would never use it. I think it sounds pretty, I also don't mind it spelled with a K but only as Kourtney, not Kortni.
A lot of people have been saying it's dated, which I find odd because I know quite a few girls under 20 with the name where I live.

Well, anyone aged 15-20 would have been born between 1997 and 2002, and Courtney was still #28 in 1997 and and was still in the top hundred in 2002, at #88. But I know that what I meant when I said it was dated, and I think what anyone else who said so meant, is that it's now fallen to #827. It's a dated name to give to a baby now, but of course there are plenty of women named Courtney walking around and will be for a long time. It's only recently fallen, so some of them are still young. Same with my name. I had a dated name by the time I was 15.
I honestly am scratching my head as to how it ever became so popular. I think it's harsher than Brittany, to be honest (another name I've never understood the appeal of), but at least that begins with "Brit" and not... you know... court. As in, the last place most people (who aren't lawyers) want to be!
And even though most Courtneys I grew up with were actually fairly nice people, the name also never fails to have a "snooty" or "callous" air about it - to the point where I have guessed who the villain on a TV show was... because her name was Courtney. (It was a Law & Order: SVU episode, and the character was a teenage sociopath who felt no guilt or remorse over her crime.)
That said, Courtney is still miles ahead of Kortni (yuck! who does that to their kid?).

I've always hated Courtney. It strikes me as a bimbo name. It's really dated to.
Kortni sounds awful.

I like Courtney, especially for a boy. I went to school with a lot of kids (mostly boys) with this name. It’s good, strong, and easy to spell (when it’s not intentionally misspelled to be “unique”). It’s definitely “dated,” so if that bothers you then maybe it’s best left unused. Kortni seems ridiculous to me.

I like it, though Kortni looks like it might be a kind of sea-weed.
It annoys the bejesus out of me. The "court" sound gets on my every last nerve. It's dated and I'm glad it's disappearing.
I used to babysit for a little girl named Courtney, born 1974. It's also my niece's middle name (also born 1974). At some point, her father decided he liked her middle name more than her first name, and started calling her Court. Ugh. It was also the name of my former landlady's daughter, so when I lived there, I had to hear it somewhat frequently. Bleah.

It's quite dated and I don't like the word, but it has a 'chavvy' image here. I know someone who used Kortneigh as part of her daughter's name.
Hi A !!!!
Courtney is much better on a boy imo.
I dislike Kortni or every variant spelling of it.
I saw in the popularity section that this name is nowadays mostly used only on girls and that everywhere its peak was in about 1994-1996 while it desappeared from rankings about in 2003-2005.
Do you know why it was so popular in 1995?
Despite I prefer it on a boy I would never use it because it seems too much the name of a breed of dog imo.

It’s trashy and dated honestly.
I've always liked it.
