Avery IS a male name but more and more girls are being given it. Name nerds tend to dislike that because when there are so many names in each gender category there is no reason to "steal" one from the other.
If you like Freya, I'd also look into Frida, Greta, Joya, Priya, Thora, Ylva, or Oona.
If you like Ava, I'd also look into Ada, Eva, Una, Ina, or Mia.
If you like Evelyn, I'd also look into Emmeline, Adeline, Aveline (you could use your nn Ava), or Evelina.
"Okay, what are your ideas? Taylor? Uh-huh. Fletcher? Cooper? Tanner? Where are you getting these? The Big Book Of Medieval Professions?"

I don’t like any of those suggestions similar to Freya
Ada I DO like but my sisters baby is called Ida :-( so far too close. And I don’t like the rest
Hubby said no to Emmeline and Adeline they were on my list. :-(
It’s just so hard to find something we both love that isn’t too common but isn’t too unusual so it blends in ok with the other kids.

I feel your pain, but your perfect name is out there.
We take names pretty seriously on this board, but even if you were to choose the worst name in the world, your child will still be a success if they're a cool person. And I highly doubt you'll pick the worst name in the world. It sounds like you're on a good track.
I still hate the name Avery, though. ;) Have you ever been to the nameberry site? If you put in a favourite name of yours it spits out a list of similar ones.
