[Opinions] Sandy
Do you think this could make a comeback? I think it's kind of cool. I could see it on both genders, as a nature name.
Do you prefer it on a boy or girl? Does it work on its own? Is it 50s dated?
For a girl, do you prefer Sandra or Alessandra as a full form?
Could you comment on
Alessandra
Sandra
Sandy (g)
Sandy (b)
Thanks :)

I have a young niece-by-marriage named Sandrine. (she lives in France.)It's a nice name.
This is a big time family name for me, and I have the softest of spots and the fiercest of protection instincts about it for that reason.
My (Scottish) grandpa was Alexander nn Sandy, my mom is Sandra nn Sandy, and I have cousins named Sandy (on its own) and Alyx (on its own). Our next child will probably be Alexander or Alexandra, with the nickname Sandy regardless of gender.
Alessandra is lovely, but just be prepared for a lifetime of correcting people who think you said/meant Alexandra.
Sandra is a bit dated, yes (sorry Mom).
Sandy on its own isn't quite substantial enough (sorry cousin Sandy).
Other names I've toyed with myself are Cassander/Cassandra and Lysander/Lysandra.

Alessandra - not a fan
Sandra - I like it.
Sandy (g) - I like Sandy on a girl. It's a bit dated, though. Don't like it on its own, though.
Sandy (b) - could work on a boy in the UK; elsewhere people might assume he's a girl

Alessandra - too unEnglish, and it can't shorten to Alexa which would be my nn of choice
Sandra - nope. Too many negative associations and no positives
Sandy (g) - same as Sandra
Sandy (b) - a whole lot better! That's assuming it's short for Alexander. That makes it all hoots-mon healthy in the heathery Highlands, which is good.

Yuck.
Worse is that I actually used to know a boy named Sandy.

I wanted to go by Sandy in middle school, it didn't take, and frankly I don't know what I was thinking. I really rather hate it fir a girl. It's bland in spite of not being super common. I suppose its an okay nickname, but it would be my last choice of options for Alessandra. Sandra is a fairly lackluster name in itself imo. It's pretty. but that's all.
I like it okay on a boy, though it isn't love, I think because it is very uncommon it feels fresher and more interesting.

I actually asked this question a long time ago, and everyone seemed to hate it. I think it's cute, kind of like Sonny. I can see it making a comeback someday.
Definitely a girl. I don't think it sounds too dated.
Don't particularly like Alessandra, much prefer Alice or Alexandra.
Sandra's not bad, but it does still sound kind of dated to me.

I like it for a boy, short for Alexander. I have a neighbour from Scotland with that name.
