[Opinions] Idris
Thoughts on IdrisI used to think it was a bit too I usual to use but it was given to 257 boys in 2016 (UK) so it is becoming more known so what are your thoughts? Also really like Emrys but this is still not well known and worried the Em Will make people assume girl. Thoughts?~ Always end the name of your child with a vowel, so that when you yell the name will carry ~

I like both of them. I think you'd be okay with Emrys: it's fairly similar to Ellis, which is still quite popular.

Idris is nice, but is a bit close to Iris and Isis, which Iris is popular for girls, so I would not use it.Emrys is much better then Ambrose.

Idris always felt feminine to me because it is the name of a female character in Tolkien's universe. But I like it for either gender.I like Emrys as well, and Emeric.

Tolkien doesn't have any female characters named Idris. I think you mean Idril.

I think I mixed up Indis and Idril somehow.

I like it. Mostly because of the handsome Idris Elba.

I love them both: the Welsh-meets-Muslim of Idris and the Arthurian vibe of Emrys delight me.I can't guess at people's assumptions! Depends on the people. And anyway, they are all educable!

I've always liked Idris. I think it's handsome, quiet, and hardworking. It's a family name for me and I had considered it as a middle name for our younger son. My grandpa had hoped someone in our generation would use it but nobody has or probably will. I think, at least in the US, it's not very known but Idris Elba helps people recognize it?Emrys is nice too. I can see unknowing people thinking it could be a girl's name, but I wouldn't let that stop you!

I like it. Most boys I know called Idris are from a Muslim background, although I know it's a Welsh name as well.I prefer Emlyn to Emrys, but that's probably even more likely to be mistaken for a feminine name!
