I think of Gary the snail from Spongebob Squarepants when I hear the name Gary. The sound of it is not particularly appealing to me and it's a bit, I don't know, forgetable? Though the name might work with a less English pronounciation, like Gah-rhy or something like that. I am not a native English speaker, so the name obviously sounds different to my ears. I personally don't think this name will be popular again anytime soon.
