[Opinions] Bridget
What do you think of Bridget? Does it make you think of the movies and books? Just wondering because I love the movies but I feel that maybe the name is too strongly tied to the character now? What comes to mind when you hear Bridget? What do you imagine a Bridget to be like?

I have a bad association to the name, but it doesn't make me think of the movie. I loved the name pre-meeting the bad association and I think it's still a good name.

It doesn't make me think of the movies and books, but then they were never important in my life. I like the name, more for its cultural importance than its sound. I am so-so on its sound, and don't much care for B names in general. Since Irish and Celtic history and culture matter a lot to me, I adore Bridget and associate it with the goddess, the saint, and strong Irish women. I do prefer the Brigid spelling.

I don't think I know what character you're talking about, sorry. The only famous Bridgets I know of are actually Brigittes: Brigitte Bardot and Brigitte Nielsen. As for Bridget, it's a cool, spunky name - though I prefer the Brigit spelling, because that's less like "Bridge with a T at the end." I knew a Bridgett (that spelling) in grade school, though, who absolutely HATED her name. And it made an unfortunate amount of sense, though: she was surrounded by Ashleys, Stephanies, Tiffanys, Emilys... girls with softer names; and she thought hers was ugly. (It also probably didn't help that her mother's name was Willow, which is very soft.) I don't know if she ever grew to like her name...

I am unaware of what movies and books you refer to.Bridget makes me think of a pretty young Irish immigrant circa 1880. My paternal grandmother was the daughter of Irish immigrants, and was almost named Bridget. Her parents wanted to name her Bridget, but a family friend strenuously objected. It's a name I think is ugly, but charmingly so. I like it.

I really like Bridget. It doesn't make me think of the movies at all. It's a strong yet feminine name.
