I LOVE Cynthia and the nickname Thia.

I love Cynthia! I think it's prettier on its own, without a nickname.

Cynthia is a dated name that I like, along with Deborah. I love its moon goddess tie as well as the way it sounds. It was popular when I was born, so I knew several girls named Cynthia while growing up--in fact, one was a good friend of mine. She was called Cindy, as was every other Cynthia I knew, with the exception of one, who insisted on being called Cynthia. I remember that she always had to correct one of the teachers, who wanted to call her Cindy every time.

I'd probably avoid Cindy because it was common as I was growing up. Cyn --- I don't know. John Lennon's first wife Cynthia was called Cyn, but it does sound just like the word "sin". I think Thia and Thea work, but I don't much like them. I think I prefer Cindy of all the nicknames, but because Cindy was so common when I was growing up, I probably wouldn't use Cynthia at all, even though I do like it.

I've gone back and forth on this name a lot. A part of me likes it, but a part of me thinks it sounds a little outdated and bland. I like the nn Thia, it's cute!

I think Cynthia is just plain ugly, hissing and lispy and making me think of a sour-faced, sneaky woman. Cindy is kind of cute, but I'd rather just use it by itself rather than have it anywhere associated with Cynthia.
I sure wouldn't want to be called Cyn. And Thia and Thea just sound like currently-trendy bet-hedging nns for the "classic" Cynthia.
