I dislike jewel names in general, and Pearl sounds particularly elderly. I'd use Margaret any day.

I love Pearl. Although I still like it as a first name, I think I will more likely use it as a middle name.

It's okay. Something about it feels weird to me, like the way a lot of people feel about the word moist, haha. But I also think it's gorgeous, so... haha, we'll go with I like it.

Pearl has really grown on me lately. While it's not something I'd ever use because I don't like the way my lips feel when I say it, I'd be happy to meet a tiny Pearl one day. :-)

I wouldn't quite call it retro trashy though ... Brandy is retro trashy. Pearl is more like antique floozy. Pearl along with Ruby and Opal is a flapper - of bingo wings.
I think of Mavis and Olive as being in roughly the same category, but they are more naturey and less "bling" so I think they seem less schlocky.

I'm warning up to it since a good friend of mine Used Pearl for her daughter.

Newly hipster and retro trashy

I just love its retro charm. I do love it as a first name, but it also makes a great middle name. But I can see the possibility that a lot of people will start thinking so and it will become as filler a middle name as Rose has been.
