[Opinions] WDYT of Ellis?
Replies
I suppose it could work if you were honoring ancestors that came through Ellis Island. It's a fine surname but I wouldn't use it as a fn.
I really like Ellis. I never really thought of it much until recently and then I started loving Elliott and Elias, so Ellis is right in there with them just about. :)
I work in a neonatal intensive care unit, and several months ago we had twin boys named Ethan and Ellis (the mother's maiden name was Ellis). Most of the nurses loved the name Ethan but not Ellis. :-/ Why do people resist change so much? lol It seems like most of the people I work with only like VERY popular names. How dull. :b
I think Ellis sounds GREAT with Milo, Imogen, and Desmond. And btw, I love all of those, too! :) Whatever category these would fall into, is definitely my favorite type of name (hence why there are so many suggestions below, lol).
Some suggestions for siblings:
Beatrice
Cecily
Jemima
Philippa
Clementine
Violet
Esme
Amabel
Adele
Cleo
Willa
Leora
Pearl
Felicity
Sidony
Camilla / Camille
Gideon
Alistair
Benedict
Lucian
Oscar
Quincy
Hugh
Grady
Theodore
Casper / Jasper

Ellis Island
The first thing that pops into my head is Ellis Island. Not a bad thing at all, but I don't like any name to have such an immediate connotation. Does that make sense? I like BrittneyD's suggestion of Elias as an alternative because it also lends itself to the nn Eli, which is much more mascueline that the nn that I think Ellis would get (El or Ellie).
I do love Milo and Imogen though!

I like Elias much better!
Surname question...
Is it a common surname where you're from? Something in me keeps saying "SURNAME!" when I think of it too, but I can't actually recall ever meeting someone with the last name Ellis.

My favorite teacher was Mrs. Ellis
But that is the only time I've heard it.
