Wordsmith made me think of this wonderful flower name again. What do you think of Peony?
How do you pronounce it? I heard it pronounced as PEE-eh-nee (kind of) and I guess it would make many people think of 'pee on me'. However in the comment section some people wrote they pronounce it PAY-oh-nee, like Penny or pee-O-nee. How is it pronounced?

PEE-eh-nee makes the most sense to me since it comes from the Latin Paeon.
I think Peony would make an awesome name for a pot-bellied pig. Not so much for a person.

I'm guessing the other pronunciation comes from the alternative spelling of paeony for the flower

The flowers are lovely. Too bad the name is so readily associated with urine.

I say PEE-eh-nee. Never thought of Pee on me, though.
Certainly a lovely flower, smells as nice as a rose, and nicer than many...I have some un-scented roses in our garden, disappointing.
Not a name I'd use, I'm too conservative, name-wise for that, but it's useable.

I adore Peony! I pronounce it "PEE-a-nee." "PAY-oh-nee" sounds forced and unnatural to me.

I kind of like it in a GP way. I used it on a sim. I pronounce it the first way, Pee-eh-nee.

I always thought it was PEE-e-nee too. I was just wondering because the comment section listed some other pronunciations. I was hoping that maybe the word was pronounced differently in different accents. I guess not :P

Where I live (French-speaking), the flower is generally called pivoine.

I know that I would pronounce it "PEE-eh-nee" and yes, "pee on me" would be a problem. I think it would be a terrible name to actually give a child.

It's Pee-a-Knee. And for that reason it doesn't make a good first name. It sounds wimpy anyhow, even without the pee association.
