Apparently,
Winston Churchill's wife was always serenaded by military bands etc playing 'Oh my darling
Clementine' at top volume, and it bugged them both, because her name was pronounced like Clementeen and they didn't like the song much anyway.
The only one I know spells her name Clementene, and her parents did that deliberately so that there wouldn't be any confusion with the citrus or the song. I think that was very sensible.
I loathe and despise
Charlotte. Always have.
Cecily is a great favourite -
Cecil is a family name but I wouldn't use it for a boy;
Cecily is much nicer. In my life, Clementine/Clementene would always come in second to
Cecily, but what society in general would think, I can't guess.
I prefer
Clemency to Clementine/-ene: my order of merit would be
Clemency, then
Clementine some distance away, and
Clemence would come in stone last.
