Help[Opinions] Karlene and Carlene
What do you think of Karlene/Carlene? I'm loving this name, and tend to like the "k" spelling. I have a feeling that people may consider it dated, but I think it's really pretty, and quite unusual, but still familiar.

It's not bad but it seems a bit 50s, maybe because I immediately want to put it in a group with Darlene and Maureen. Carlene looks better to me. I do think it is a bit country-ish but that's not necessarily a bad thing, it depends on what you like. But when I imagine a Carlene I see her in the countryside and not in New York, it's just not a very urban name if that makes sense. Jolene seems to be making a comeback and I do think that -een and -ene names will come back into style soon, especially Maxine, Jolene and Marlene. There is also Kalina if you like similar names.

I like names with the "een / ene / ine" suffix i.e. (ei?) Eileen, and do not have a country association to it, however I've never heard any country (as in Country & Western?) song about it.
I am quite indifferent to spelling--so I thoroughly believe that these factors should be determined by the name giver or named individual - and it is always best when the parents help the child like the name - and amend it to the style of the child's preference.

Een names are definitely out of style right now. It's not a bad name but feels not only dated but kind of Hee-Haw to me. There actually is a (modern) country song called Carleen.)
I think Carla is nicer but Carly is the nicest and most current.

I definitely consider it dated. I also just don't really like it. I don't think I like the "een" sound. My cousin named her daughter Carleen two years ago. The kid is a sweetie, but I still don't like the name.
