Marina
After the birth of her daughter Hadley, Marina felt like her family was complete. And it would have been, if she didn't meet Hermes. He was a new faculty member at the art school where Marina taught, hired while she was on her maternity leave. She met him at her welcome back party. Hermes had just gone through a major life change. He'd worked as a producer in Las Angeles for his adult life, but after a car accident left him without use of his legs he'd moved home to recuperate. He'd decided not to move back to LA, taking a job teaching script writing instead. He and Marina hit it off instantly. They moved in together shortly after Hadley's first birthday and were married before her second.
Hermes was delighted by Amos and Hadley. By then, Amos was developing into a strong personality - very high energy in a fast learner, he was trouble if you didn't keep your eye on him. Hadley was all sweetness, a very sweet baby. A year into their marriage, Hermes asked Marina if she'd consider having another child with him. He'd never thought much about children until he'd met hers and he loved them like her own, but also felt a sense of loss that he'd never had any of his own. Marina wasn't sure she could have kids at forty, but for him she decided to try. It took two years and a bit of medical intervention, but eventually Marina became pregnant, with twins.
Maybe it was her age, maybe it was the fact that it was multiples, but Marina's third pregnancy felt a lot harder than her other two. She was very sick in the first trimester and struggled with fatigue throughout. At five months, she decided she couldn't continue teaching and informed the school that she wouldn't be returning for fall semester. At thirty-two weeks, Marina started having contractions. Upon further examination, she was luckily found not to be in labor, but was put on bed rest for the duration of the pregnancy. At 35w4d, her labor began in earnest and was going all right until one of the twins started experiencing a decreased heart rate. Marina ended with with a c-section, but her twin daughters, Sybil Annika and Prudence Lenore, were born safely. Seeing Hermes hold his daughters helped Marina begin to heal from the birth. Six months later, she was so happy she had her girls. She missed teaching, but was now focusing on her podcast full time.
Chloe
Chloe wanted a large family, but she never guessed her family would get this big. Less than a year after her marriage to James and the birth of their daughter, Verity, Chloe was already expecting their second. She was thrilled - until she learned it was twins. Could she and James handle four children? Luckily, it was an easy pregnancy. Chloe even joked that she'd forget she was pregnant sometimes. Mercy Artmeis and Jonas Apollo were born exactly on time and were shockingly easy babies. Certainly easier than Verity, who was easily the stubbornist of her children.
When the twins were two, James and Chloe decided they were going to have their last baby. Nine months later, Timothy Rowan Holst was born. Chloe noticed shortly after he was born that something seemed wrong. He was a very fussy baby, and after nursing he seemed to have trouble breathing. Her pediatrician referred her to the hospital, where Timothy was diagnosed with a heart defect. This was devastating for Chloe and James. At one month old, Timothy had surgery to fix a hole in his heart. It was the scariest day in Chloe's life, but when it was over Timothy was cured.
Chloe left her job as a middle school librarian to focus on raising her six children. She felt so lucky. Her oldest, Lyndon, was a joker and a sweetheart. Her second, Verity, was stubborn and so smart. The twins, Mercy and Jonas, were curious little scientists in the making. And baby Timothy was a sweetheart. She couldn't imagine her life getting any better. Which is why it initially wasn't good news when Chloe discovered she was pregnant again, and even less so when she found out she was carrying her second set of twins. However, James reassured her that they could handle it -- and also made an appointment to have a vasectomy. Twin boys, Calvin and Julian, were born nine months later.
Violet
Violet and Damon dated for nearly five years before they finally wed. While their families had been united for quite a while, marriage itself was never a big priority. Violet, especially, was dedicated to her blooming business. But when it finally did happen, Violet couldn't have been more perfect. All the kids were at the alter with them. Gaia had already asked if she could have Damon's last name, so they incorporated that into the ceremony, a touching moment that brought everyone to tears. Shortly before the wedding, she finally did something she wanted to do for years - posted a job listing! After years of being a one woman show, she was finally ready to hire employees.
She came back form her honeymoon looking forward to sorting through resumes, but found herself sorting through sudden but familiar symptoms of fatigue and nausea instead. She was pregnant again. At first, she wasn't sure what do to. She and Damon only had the twins part time, as they lived primarily with their mother, but when they had all three kids they could be quite a handful. They were lucky that Ziggy, Veda, and Gaia all go along - but sometimes they got along too well and really tried to pull one over on their parents. Violet wasn't sure how she could handle the kids, her business, and a new baby. But Damon assured her it would be okay. He was willing to cut back on his career and be Mr. Mom so that she could work long hours if she needed to. Their son, Aries was born, appropriately, in early April.
