Lily is so light it could float away. I would choose Eliana because it is fanciful and yet the N seems grounding.

I like Lily more. Man, I so wish Lily hadn't become so popular. It would be a favorite if it weren't such a trend.

Some popular names are still favorites, like William and Emily, but these ones that come out of nowhere like Lily, their sudden populariry seems to change all your associations with the name.

Eliana is pretty but it's not really my taste.

Lily always felt popular to me because I knew quite a few growing up and it's a common TV name.

I am actually surprised it only recently became popular.

Both are lovely, but I'd go with Lily, just because Eliana would be shortened to Ellie and I really don't like it. Lily Eliana, though a bit of a mouthful, would be a beautiful combo.

Eliana! It makes such a nice impression. It's simple like Ellen, but beautiful like Juliana. I knew an Eliana when I was in high school and it was extremely rare then. I still remember admiring her name.

Lily seems weak IMO. It's pretty in more of a humble way, not an elegant way.

Eliana -- I love the way it looks and sounds. I love its meanings (two different origins). I love that it has nn options (Ellie, Elle, Ella, Lia, Liana, Ana, Annie, etc.) if she feels the full name is too long or formal. I love that it's less common than Lily. I find Eliana to be elegant, fascinating, slightly mysterious and fun to say although I'm not sure I'd use a four-syllable name on a full-time basis.

because Lily is too popular.

I like Lily but I couldn't bestow it upon a child as a full first name because I wouldn't want her to be "Lily P." or "Little Lily" or "Lily with the glasses".
I wouldn't mind Liliana "Lily".

Eliana - which I'm pronouncing as ell-ee-ARH-nah - has a really pretty sound, my sister is called Ellie so it would be a nod in her direction although that does eliminate the most obvious nickname. I am one who likes to nickname so if Eliana couldn't be Elle or Ellie, she would probably end up Ana or perhaps at a stretch Lia.

Yes, it is popular :/ At least it seems to be losing its popularity now. I don't think she would necessarily be a Lily P. or something like that. It is falling rather quickly. I was surprised to see that it is out of the top 20 and falling, I actually think by the time I have children (maybe 5 years or so) it will be out of the top 50.

It's falling in England too (where I'm based) but still at #13. For me, where I live, it's still quite current and you hear it a lot, especially in double-barrel combinations too.
Can't go into a primary school / nursery without falling over lots of Lily-Maes and Lily-Graces!

Yes, I think it was more common in England overall. I think it's popularity is just going down very recently so right now you still hear it a lot. I actually like Lily-Rose :P But I won't do it, it is just bound to age a lot worse than Lily and I am not a fan of hyphens.

Lily. It's much more... tangible?

I knew an Eliana once and I could never remember her name, because it only seemed to exist as elements from other names. I don't hate it, and I can see how it sounds pretty, but it just doesn't seem very interesting or concrete to me.

I'd choose Lily if I had to choose one, in spite of its popularity.

I had a former co-worker who named her baby Eliana or something close to it, I don't remember the exact spelling. I don't like it. It sounds just like a jumble of vowels to me, no substance.

Yes, I have considered Liliana (this spelling) :) I like it! The thing is, I also like Eliana a lot. So if I used Lily for my first daughter I would still have the option to name the second Eliana. If I named her Liliana no more Eliana for me :P I also like Giuliana, to make things more complicated ;)

There's nothing wrong with Lily, it's just not a favorite of mine. I wished that I liked it, but I dislike how it sounds. Seems a bit childish to me. Eliana is also childish in a way, but I still like the name.

I would choose Eliana. It sounds so pretty and I would love Ana as a nickname. Also, I feel like I know a lot of Lilys.

Both are good but I would choose Eliana mostly because it is less common. I'd love Lily if it wasn't so popular.

Yes, I hope by the time I have children it will be less common. It is falling rather quickly I think it might be out of the top 30 by 2016 (the list will be released in May).
